The company is an award-winning online retailer revolutionising grocery shopping in the UK who continually report double digit growth. They are developing their own technology and new customer propositions allowing the business to open multiple sites at an accelerating rate across the globe.

The Product Development (PD) team is revolutionising technology when it comes to the engineering solutions and automation within their automated distribution sites and are looking for a talented Product Development Buyer to join them.

This position will be instrumental in providing cost-saving initiatives, quality improvement and lead time reductions, and will also be responsible for supporting the procurement of prototype parts and assemblies for the development team.

Key accountabilities:

  • Source 'best in class' products for competitive prices from reliable vendors
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers
  • Work with various development teams to support procurement and implement new product development projects
  • Support PD Procurement Lead with increasing supplier quality
  • Review approved prototype/development supplier list and identify risks/requirements
  • Support PD Procurement Lead with legal contracts and negotiation of commercial terms
  • Determine material and part requirements and shortages
  • Track and maintain proper levels of stocked inventory for live projects
  • Cross reference invoice and purchase order validity
  • Produce regular reports on saving and delivery performance
  • Initiate and implement process improvement initiatives
  • Support PD Procurement Lead with transition of products from prototype to production
  • Supplier relationship management (including organising supplier visits)

Minimum experience required:

  • Experience in procurement, buying, inventory management and/or logistics
  • Experience working with large data sets and ability to analyse data
  • Advanced in Microsoft Excel (Proficient in other MS applications)
  • Experience in negotiation tactics and tactical buying
  • Commercial awareness

Preferred (in addition to minimum):

  • Experience of manufacturing processes
  • Engineering experience
  • Experience in managing a complex bill of materials
  • CIPS (or working towards)
