As allocations officer you will be expected to allocate properties in accordance with the Council’s Allocations Policy and to implement the Council’s Choice Based Lettings systems.

Job  Description

Assessment of applicants’ needs including medical and other relevant information.

To match property with applicants who are under-occupying their current accommodation, to free up larger accommodation.  Liase with Housing Management on whether particular applicants are suitable for void property.

Management transfers – ensure applicant is active on system as a direct let (management transfer) and match to suitable accommodation.

To identify adaptable properties that may be suitable to an applicant’s needs and ensure that an Occupational Therapy assessment is carried out to confirm a pre-allocation.

Sheltered Accommodation – match applicants to vacant property as a direct let and advise applicants.  Arrange nominations with Housing Associations and liase with advice agencies.

To arrange viewings for matched cases.

To match applicants who are hospital discharges with appropriate vacant accommodation and liase with hospitals and other agencies.

Person Specification

You must have a good standard of education and have experience of working at least one year in public sector housing.

You must have good working knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 Parts VI and VII (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002), knowledge of related secondary legislation, good working knowledge of the rights and obligations of landlords and occupants in the public and private sector, knowledge of recent housing issues and government initiatives and an understanding of Equal Opportunities and Diversity and how this affects service delivery, especially in regard to vulnerable clients.
